Where are the Palestinians in Israel’s protest movement?

JVL Introduction

In the Israeli protest movement talk about Palestinian oppression is systematically avoided; the “democracy” they are defending is a democracy for Jews.

Despite this, some Palestinians and leftist Jews are trying to influence the movement from within.

It isn’t easy!

Reem Hazzan of Hadash was invited to speak by the local protest group in Haifa which prides itself on its “inclusive approach”.

As the day approached the organisers clearly got cold feet, demanded to see Hazzan’s speech and wanted it changed because it was not optimistic and positive enough!

Yoav Haifawi tells the story here.

The upshot? There was no Palestinian speaker at that Haifa demonstration.

  • Thanks for this clear & concise account of the situation.

How to connect with naiive, well meaning, usually non-political people, possibly living, unconsciously, in a propaganda bubble, who’ve been raised to BELEIVE that communists want to destroy all they are & have?
