As anyone who has lived in Israel knows, this narrative is false in just about every detail complete with invented missing links to make it roll along smoothly. JVL could do some fact checking before posting what is mainly propaganda and quite insulting to Jews who lived in Arab countries. You’d be hard pressed to find any Jewish family in Israel, and to some extent outside, where marriages and subsequent generations have not blurred distinctions of origin whether Russian, Yemenite, Moroccan, Polish, Anglo, South American, French etc, and similarly levels of observance have also been blurred other than among the extreme Haredim. There are plenty of political fights within Israel but they are certainly not related to Jonathan Cook’s stereotyping. A strong justified peaceful protest movement against a right-wing government does not constitute civil war. It constitutes democracy.
