For Palestinian citizens of Israel – things keep getting worse

The terrible situation for Palestinians in the Gaza and the West Bank can often mean we do not pay the necessary attention to Palestinian citizens of Israel (PCIs). We have posted about the oppression and displacement of Bedouin in the Negev but less about the deteriorating situation for those living, for example in East Jerusalem and the so called mixed towns of Jaffa and Akko (Acre) for example. So this article is particularly to be welcomed to remind us of the difficulties of being a minority citizen in the so called “only democracy in the Middle East”.
“Since the 7 October attack…, Israeli authorities have cracked down on freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and freedom to protest. PCIs who have made public statements expressing sympathy for Palestinians in Gaza have faced job losses, disciplinary action including expulsion at universities and arrest. In the first two months of the war,, more than 270 PCIs were arrested.”

Our imposed upon us Sir Worse Than Useless blathers as if mindlessly about Israel being a ‘democratic’ state, hypocritically ignoring that Israel is actually quite like the old racist South Africa with its apartheid system of hierarchy where, coincidentally, the indigenous people have minimal rights and are regularly badly treated by the right-wing extremist Israeli rulers.
E Jerusalem is NOT part of Israel. It is part of the occupied W Bank.
