COP 29 – and Palestine is a key issue

JVL Introduction

Palestine was at the UN COP 29 that took place in Baku, Azerbaijan; the environmental damage to Palestine is not limited to Gaza and is worse than in many other countries, for example “Temperatures in Palestine are increasing faster than the global average, and it is highly vulnerable to floods, heatwaves, droughts, and storms. (and) environmental work is complicated because of the ongoing war”.

But what is happening in Gaza is having a horrendously detrimental impact on the environment; murderig, maiming and starving people is the most immediate issue, and the environmental destruction must not be ignored.  The “war” on Gaza is literally a “scorched earth” policy and after the destruction, how long would it be before the earth could sustain growth?

Furthermore, environmental campaigners in Palestine link the catastrophe in Gaza with energy and ask that : countries stop selling energy to, and buying gas from, Israel. Furthermore companies must end their involvement in extracting “gas from illegally occupied Palestinian waters.”
