This short piece sums up the everyday racism faced by Palestinians living in Israel.  We keep hearing about how many rights and privileges “Israeli Arabs” (sic) have.  Ms Majadi describes what could be considered micro aggressions but behind these is the weight of Israel’s policies, laws and actions such that a book with an image of a Palestinian flag is enough to cause problems.

  • I’m amazed. Common sense to me would’ve been absolutely to leave the book at work. No question. If carrying it into a Tel Aviv bar was unavoidable, OF COURSE you should’ve been discreet and kept it face down. What were you trying to do? Provoke them?
