Demolitions in the West Bank – trauma on trauma

JVL Introduction

Ethnic cleansing, settler attacks have been increasing at an alarming rate over recent years and most especially since October 7th 2023.  Nearly ten months on, only exceptional actions within continuous pulverising of Gaza are considered “news” house demolitions, displacements as well as settler threats and attacks barely get mentioned so inured have we become to this as “normal”.  For Palestinians too, this is the background, the white noise that accompanies their presence and their determination but there is a terrible cost.  Here Awdah Hathaleen has grown up with this as a constant theme of his life and he now worries about how the intergenerational trauma from the ongoing Nakba will affect the next generation, including his own children.
