The West Bank: Resisting Israel’s violence and oppression is inevitable

What happened in Tell, near to Nablus on Friday 24th July, resulted from Israel’s creation of an “explosive pressure cooker” in the West Bank.  Israel’s response was predictable as ever act of resistance  by Palestinians must be treated as terrorism and also an excuse to steal more Palestinian land.  Here Ramzy Baroud outlines what has been happening to Palestinians in the West Bank since October 7th 2023 and the inevitability of resistance. And, of course, none of this started after October 7th and what has happened since is an acceleration of what had gone before.

What are Palestinians supposed to do?  In Gaza Israel blames Hamas for everything and pulverises the territory and is pushing the people into about 20% of the Strip.  Peaceful protests such as the Great March of Return in 2018 have been brutally repressed, leading to Israel killing or maiming hundreds of unarmed Palestinians inside Gaza. In the West Bank [where Hamas has little power] Israel has expelled thousands of Palestinians from their homes and enabled settlers to destroy crops, structures and people with impunity.

Palestinians have tried negotiation, they have tried dialogue; the Palestinian Authority have even tried collaboration and still Palestinians are not safe. If the risks of being killed, injured or arrested and tortured are high for peaceful resistance (or just peacefully going about your business, like tending to the sick), then what incentive is there to stay peaceful?
