Condemning Settler Terror and supporting Settler Colonialism

The settler attacks in Qusra seem to have caused even some politicians to wake up to the reality of settler violence in the West Bank. US Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee he named these settlers as “terrorists” and their actions were “disgusting”. Strong words and no action is what we are used to and are of no use to the Palestinians who have been living under siege for decades.
These settlers are not “exceptional” or “extremists” and the attacks are backed by the IDF. Even in this high profile case, with a view to the optics, the IDF imposed a closure, as well as a curfew on the Palestinian town and forced the Palestinian families besieged by settlers to evacuate their homes. The Palestinian families who had done nothing wrong. This was the – all too typical – response to an illegal settlement outpost being put up, three Palestinian homes put under siege and solidarity activists blocked from reaching the homes with the food and water they had brought. The article contains more and important detail about what has been happening in Qusra, which is repeated throughout the West Bank.

The U.S. ambassador’s concern for an American citizen in Qusra, and the shock at reports in the international media, pale in comparison as the IDF once again punishes the Palestinians targeted by the settlers

Huckabee defending ‘settler colonialism’ while coming from a country, where the indigenous people, experienced genocide, and deliberate ethnic – the latter via President Andrew Jackson’s 1830 Indian Removal Act. The survivors now live predominantly ghettoised in a Reservation system. And much of the resulting land clearance for Plantations was to enable Slavery. Even now its hard to set foot in the place if you’re a person of colour and particularly Muslim. It’s easy to defend ‘settler colonialism’ when you’re never among the countless victims.
Let’s face it these are fascist thugs cloaked in a really messed up version of what they consider judasim. Or somehow a mash up of judaism entwined with zionism.
I am reminded of the Loud Hawk case – The United States v The American Indian Movement. With a young first year law student called Kenneth Stern who volunteered his legal services to the defence attorneys.
The protest placards read – ‘Free Loud Hawk and Redner. Stop killing indian people. Stop the longest war. Justice for the first Americans. FBI go home. U.S out of the U.S’
The words are still strong and echo today for the indigenous people of Palestine.
