Peaceful (co) resistance against the brutal occupation

JVL Introduction

This is another West Bank story of Umm Al Khair in the South Hebron Hills and the experience of an artist, Eid Hathaleen whose work has been recognised and who you can see in this video describing his art and experiences shortly after the demolition of his own home in 2024.  There is no let  up on the hardships and the plethora of demolition orders issued recently on top of the murder of Eid’s cousin, Awdah as well as the increasing encroachment of Carmel Settlement and its outpost, largely the work of the man who killed Awdah.

This article describes the reality of life in the Umm al Khair, like many other villages in that 60% of the West Bank (Area C) where Israel has full control.  It also highlights a commitment to peace, to co-existence, to joint work with Israeli and international activists.  Even though the concluding words are chilling they also carry determination to continue with peaceful resistance and to building a new future for everyone.

Please note the original article has several pictures of Eid Suleiman Hathaleen’s artwork.
