“Zionism is not reformable”

JVL Introduction

The Conflicts Forum has done us all a service by compiling “a series of extracts from analysis & commentary by Israeli commentators, usually from the Hebrew press — as reports published in Hebrew often provide a different window on Israeli internal discourse”.

Some minor edits have been made for clarity.

They are presented without comment and left to speak for themselves. We have posted some of these before but find this compilation compelling.

The overall picture is damning.

  • Articles like the above are incredibly useful and honest in engendering wider public understanding in Britain of Zionism

  • A very comprehensive compilation of writings which speak for themselves.

I observe that the political poster used as a header is itself basically false. The ‘ancestral soil’ which the terrorist state of Israel has lately occupied was divided provinces of the Roman Empire two thousand years ago. Before that it was provinces of a succession of previous empires. It was provinces of various empires after the Romans. It was Palestine of the Ottoman Empire into the twentieth century and not a Jewish state until quite recently. It is observably an aggressive colonialist venture repopulated with people from outside of the area on the basis of religion, with the indigenous population being cruelly persecuted, disposesssed and mass-murdered to make way.

  • “You can go back to 1948.”
    ” …and that Zionism became… something else.”

What about the Hagannah, Irgun, LEHI and the unorganized settler violence before those terrorist groups?
I doubt that Zionism really “became something else”, or if it did, it was in the moment of going from an idea to practice. After that it just followed the path of its own logic. The thought of a safe haven for Jews is definitely understandable given historical European antisemitism, but there was no land without a people. Ethnic cleansing as a necessity was clear from before the first aliyah.
Zionism is colonialism. Colonialism is evil.
I am from the Netherlands where they are so very proud of their “Gouden Eeuw”, but every snippet of ‘gold’ was drenched in blood of uncountable natives from Bali, Sumatra, Java, Lombok etc. Hundreds of peoples with their own cultures and languages beaten into submission, exploited and murdered for gain. Most Dutch people are not aware of this, the way i was taught about it in school didn’t reflect any form of crime (not even, or maybe especially not, the post WW II atrocities when after the Japanese left, the Dutch wanted to regain control of ‘their’ Nederlands Indië) and it took the Netherlands centuries to admit and officially acknowledge its responsibility for all the horror.
Maybe Israel will be able to come more rapidly to terms with its colonialism and the atrocities that come with it and leave the idea of a Greater israel, but not when the world including the Netherlands keep lending it impunity. My hope is on BDS and possibly the ICJ.

  • The fallout from the US-Israel war of choice against Iran MAY deliver the shock therapy Bartov correctly identifies as necessary if there’s to be a better future for the Middle East, Palestinians and Israelis.

In this context, it’s interesting that Iran has asked the ICC to investigate Israel’s culpability for war crimes committed during the war. Iran – in alliance with China, Russia and Pakistan – may have enough heft to push back against the contrary pressures on the ICC of the USA and Israel.

  • This is the terrifying reality of the Zionist Project. This compendium of agonised thoughts complements perfectly the theme of Ilan Pappe’s “Israel on the Brink”. The need to undo – in its totality – the Zionism which has taken root in Israel and which has led to a society militarised and indoctrinated from the cradle. Anyone in doubt about the vile truth of this Jewish State of Israel committed to eternal military subjugation of those who have little with which to resist its US-backed might should read – and share – this article which allows us to understand that the toll taken on the morality and self examination of soldiers ordered to be executioners or to witness others involved in the massacre of Palestinians is so high as to create a Tsunami of Israeli victims who may never recover from the depravity of their deeds.
