Winning the Oscar and then things got even worse!

This story from Susiya on the edge of Masafer Yatta, in the shadow of a Settlement, is simply awful.  The sheer joy of the Oscar win and then the reality of intensified attacks from settlers and soldiers on Susiya and many other parts of the South Hebron Hills, especially Um Al Khair and Jinba.  This moving piece was written by a young man of seventeen who has been brought up under the brutality of the occupation and yet with a family and community committed to non violence.

Meanwhile it can be difficult to screen the award winning film!  And in the USA a woman lost her College job   for wanting to show the film “Israelism” a documentary by Jewish filmmakers about young American Jews coming to reject Zionism.

But the message is out there; even those who only see mainstream media are aware of what is happening and support for Israel is reducing everywhere including the USA where Americans’ support for Israel at record low, backing for Palestinians at all-time high.

When our friends in Gaza say “where is the world?” and our friends in the West Bank ask the same question, we can only say that the world is with you but our politicians, especially those in the most powerful countries are not and that we will not stop trying to hold them to account.

Meanwhile this very human story of joy followed by brutality has its own power, so please enjoy and share widely – perhaps especially with your political representatives.
