Will Trump enable West Bank annexation?

JVL Introduction

Israel has been in control of the West Bank since 1967 subjecting the people to a brutal military occupation, which has been intensified since the appointment of Smotrich to the Cabinet.  It has accelerated even more since October 7th 2023 but it is only a speeding up of what has been happening for nearly 60 years.  One of the biggest physical limitations on a potential Palestinian state has been the expanding presence of Jewish only Settlements.  Now there is increasing talk of annexation and hopes that Trump – and his appointees – will help to make this possible.  As the article notes: “The plan to impose sovereignty over the Jordan Valley and the occupied West Bank settlements is an old plan that Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu sought for years, and now is awaiting the approval of the incoming Donald Trump administration.”
