Is a two state solution possible?
JVL Introduction
The UN is meeting next week to consider the peaceful settlement on the question of Palestine; the central premise seems to be to ” reaffirm the idea that the two-state solution is “the only viable path to just, lasting and comprehensive peace”.
Here the case for this being delusional is strongly made, for example, “Last year, amid a crescendo in calls for the two-state solution, Israel approved the largest land theft in the West Bank in over three decades, further fragmenting the occupied territory and obliterating any meaningful prospect for a sovereign Palestinian state in it. The two-state solution has not only become detached from reality, but for too long steered the discussion away from reality itself.” (my emphasis Ed)
There is a one State reality, with nearly all aspects of Palestinian life under the control of the Israeli State – even the population of Gaza who do not even have a vote. But for Israel even the consideration of a Palestinian State is “rewarding Hamas” and even holding this conference is too much for the United States which urges governments to stay away as they view the conference “as counterproductive to ongoing, lifesaving efforts to end the war in Gaza and free hostages”.
This should beggar belief but is par for the course; and if the conference fails to address the the injustice of the Nakba – which is ongoing – there is no basis for justice.

The two-state solution is a delusion
Israel controls the lives of all Palestinians, without equal rights or equal representation: this is an entrenched one-state reality

The PFLP have been saying it for years; friends like Mazin Qumsiyeh in his book “Sharing the land of Canaan” have been saying it for a long time.
The 2 state solution was a mirage emanating from the Oslo Accords. Zionism never had any intention of implementing anything remotely resembling it.
All in all, it was a calculated and disingenuous method of kicking the can down the road, for ever and ever.
When Groucho Marx was asked to sign “the sanity clause,” he reponded “everyone knows there’s no sanity clause.”
It’s high time the 3 wise monkeys came to the same conclusion.
Is a two state solution possible?
No.
I attended a fringe meeting hosted by Mark Serwotka’s PCS at the 2018 LP conference. Two Palestinian speakers gave forthright opinions then, in 2018, that a “two state solution” was not possible nor had it ever been. I see no reason to doubt them. And for some ‘god alone known reason’ (and that assumes there is such an entity) Israel is able to deny statehood to the Palestinians (who in any case) don’t exist nor have they ever. An occupier having assumed and allowed such control over the occupied, unbelievable. Welcome to the world of Humpty (Bibi) Dumpty.
