What Next for Palestine? The risks of normalisation under Trump
JVL Introduction
This video update by Jeff Halper of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions is from December but carries important messages as we need to continue to campaign for justice for Palestinians, an end to the horrific genocide in Gaza and an end to Israel’s Occupation. He outlines what he expects under a Trump Presidency, not least the full implementation of the Abraham Accords, which Time Magazine thinks should be scrapped, noting that “Rather than curbing Israeli abuses, the Accords emboldened successive Israeli governments to further ignore Palestinian rights. In the first year after the Accords, settler violence dramatically increased in the West Bank. Following the election of Israel’s most right-wing government in history in 2022, cabinet ministers openly called for the annexation of the West Bank and announced massive settlement expansions.”
Normalising means normalising Israeli dominance and control as well as apartheid and bantustanisation even if there is a nominal two states. The imperative is now, the imperative is political. Talks have already started (again) with Saudi Arabia.

Jeff Halper's December 2024 Update - Trump, Israel, Saudi Arabia normalization
Donald Trump’s election is devastating for the Palestinians. As he takes office, he will seek to “normalize” the situation in the Middle East. That means no more war and the implementation of the Abraham Accords. A Palestinian state will be created but it will be an apartheid state under Israel’s regime that will lock Palestinians into permanent bantustans.
We must know the details of what is expected and be the watchdogs to help prevent this disaster.

Next for Gaza? Continued death and misery. (US) Christian Zionist -sponsored, Jewish Zionists will severely restrict any new building. PALESTINIANS will continue to suffer and die in insanitary conditions amid unexploded ordnance, with many wanting to leave, particularly the many disabled for whom life will be especially difficult. No-one will be able to stop or reverse the Zionists’ colonisation and ethnic cleansing of more of Palestine: N Gaza and the W Bank including E Jerusalem. They have got a fellow of theirs elected to lead the ICC!
I have to say that I am sick and tired of Trump stories and predictions about what terrible things he’s going to impose, which only serve to keep his name in the media and in people’s faces on a non-stop daily basis. After an article about and huge photo of Musk (same problem) on the front page of the Guardian last week was described as the second most often read that day, I suggested to the Editor to stop giving him any free front page space and pretend he doesn’t exist for a few months. I’m waiting for whether Trump will dump Musk for stealing the show or vice versa. And see on your page below — 3 JVL Trump stories. The reality is going to be non-stop awful enough. Please find something of value to share every day too, so that we don’t lose all hope of a better world and any memory of what it should consist of.
Can I interject with some grim realism here? The liberal and/or left in Israel is tiny. From where I am sitting in London, it looks as if the Palestinians are split. Any room for manoeuvre or having a voice outside of Israel is very limited at the moment. The defeat of Corbyn may mean a lot of things but one thing it definitely is a defeat for is a voice at the highest tables that offered unequivocal support for the Palestinians. On the streets all over the world, people have shown huge support, but the ruling class have learnt how to isolate such shows of feeling. They’ve learned how to sit it out and wait. None of this is intended to suggest even for one second that we should do nothing or do little. It’s about being realistic about what the situation is and where we are in it. The other thing that this is NOT is a prediction! We know that the defeats of peoples all over the world in the face of occupations, territorial expansions, genocides has been brave, resolute and survivalist. When I went to Australia and Canada, I went with a Brit’s sensibility that first nations had been ‘wiped out’. True but untrue. First nation people insist that they are survivors and still involved in 1000s of day to day struggles over education, health, land, land rights and so on. Nothing comes to an end. There’s no reason to think that if people are being assaulted, murdered, persecuted or having their homes and land taken from them, after deals and accords have been signed, that they will stop struggling for justice.
