Jews around the world say: End the genocide – End the occupation!

Global Jews for Palestine, in which Jewish Voice for Labour is an active member, is promoting this video as we come to Jewish New Year and the days of awe between now and the Jewish day of Atonement (Yom Kippur). We have no choice but to continue the fight for peace for all between the river and the sea. Such a peace is not possible without justice for Palestinians. The last year has seen a terrible toll, especially for the people in Gaza and now we see a terrible escalation. We say, as Jews, “Not In Our Name” and as human beings we stand with our comrades of all faiths and none to say this must end.

“A candle lighting our darkness”. Thank you all.
Our British government has been imposed upon us by the elimination of our democratic choice, with a Labour Party which had been changed by its self-imposed hierarchy into a fall-back Conservative Party continuing with failed counterproductive dimwittedness and lacking in real feelings towards the oppressed indigenous people living in and around the externally funded and externally armed genocidal terrorist State of Israel.
The late Professor Marc Ellis, American scholar in Jewish Liberation Theology and Jewish studies generally, in an introduction for Mondoweiss of his series on ‘Exile and the Prophetic’ wrote: ‘…The central [issue] facing us as Jews is justice for and reconciliation with the Palestinian people. Without both we as Jews are nowhere, at least ethically speaking … As Jews, darkness surrounds us. We have entered an abyss … There is also hope. I have witnessed that too in struggles I have participated in and the struggles that Jews of the new generation are waging. Years ago a Palestinian told me that the Jewish prophetic would never die. He was – is – right. The prophetic is our indigenous. It is exploding right before our eyes.
‘The prophetic is also in exile. As old as our scriptures. Yet it is important to think through what both the prophetic and exile mean for Jews today. That is for Jews of Conscience who seek to practice Jewish in an age where Empire Judaism seems triumphant.’
In the first diary entry he wrote: ‘Jewish – a concept I have struggled with my entire life. As in – what does it mean to be Jewish? Of course this is a perennial question in Jewish history. It’s never solved once and for all. Each generation responds. Each generation’s response is – their answer. What is ours?’

It is beyond painful to think that Jews in Israel are committing these crimes against a captive people. The fact that so many Jews around the world are speaking out against what is being done in our name is one of the few redeeming features of this tragic time.
