Global Jewish Solidarity with UN’s Special Rapporteur on Palestine

JVL Introduction

The UN Special Rapporteur on Palestine, Francesca Albanese has been clear about exposing the violations of Human Rights carried out by Israel before and after October 7th 2023.  Most people value her clarity and her commitment to justice and, increasingly her courage in the face of vile and abusive verbal and printed attacks. The UK based “Campaign Against Antisemitism” ran a “Ban Fran” campaign to stop her being heard at UK Universities.  However, she was heard and supported by many who stand for justice for Palestinians, including many Jewish people.

Before that, a letter was issued, signed by Jewish groups (including JVL) in many countries to offer our solidarity to Francesca Albanese, which is described here.  You can read the letter at the end of the article.

In her interview with the New Arab she says she is not greatly concerned about the attacks on her but she is irritated when these attacks come from UN member states who have a responsibility, including not to “engage in propaganda against rapporteurs as this can lead to hate speech and is irresponsible,”

She also says that she has been overwhelmed by the solidarity she has received and also that  “Every time I’ve been attacked it’s been Jewish scholars who have come to my rescue.”  For UK based Holocaust survivor Stephen Kapos she “is a hero of all of us for her brave stand against the Gaza genocide!”
