Global Jews for Palestine, an international network bringing together 25 anti-Zionist Jewish groups from 20 countries, is launching a manifesto declaring:

We believe that now is the time to aggregate the voices and actions of Jews who dissent from the Zionist consensus, so that we may fight together for a viable and just future for all.

The Manifesto, titled We Will Not Be Silenced: Embracing Palestinian liberation and Building Anti-Zionist Jewish Community, is to be launched with a webinar on Thursday July 24.

Inspired by the extraordinary movement in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza facing destruction of their lives, communities, schools, universities and centres of culture, it states:

As Jews, we feel a unique responsibility to challenge Jewish organizations whose alliances and actions seek to crush the struggle for Palestinian human and national rights, promote Jewish exceptionalism, and undermine deeply-rooted Jewish social justice traditions.

The document says:

Jews need to come to terms with the ways we are implicated in this history through our wilful ignorance, material support, and an appalling and uncritical endorsement of Israel’s actions. Reckoning with this history is key to achieving justice for the Palestinian people and creating justice-oriented Jewish communities.

The Manifesto, which is available in eight languages: concludes:

Antisemitism must be opposed on general anti-racist principles, in solidarity with other antiracist struggles and in concert with the principles of human rights and equality for all people. Jewish safety will only be achieved through solidarity among those who face injustice.

The launch webinar will be moderated by Marilyn Garson, Alternative Jewish Voices (Aotearoa/New Zealand) and addressed by the eminent Hungarian- Canadian Physician Dr. Gabor Maté.

Panelists will be Sheryl Nestel, Independent Jewish Voices (Canada); Wieland Hoban, Jewish Voice for a Just Peace in the Middle East (Germany); and Iván Zeta, Judíes x Palestina (Argentina)

Zeta said: We are organizing worldwide to confront Zionism. As Jews, we have the responsibility to raise our voices against genocide and to build bonds of solidarity with the Palestinian people and with all oppressed peoples across the globe. The only way to combat real antisemitism is by fighting all forms of racism and oppression.

Global Jews for Palestine Mission Statement:

We are Jews from many countries who are members of local, national and international networks and organizations. We are multi-ethnic and multigenerational and our members embrace a broad range of viewpoints on Jewish religious and ethical traditions. We are connected by our involvement in the struggle for Palestinian rights, and by our determination to work for justice. We oppose Zionism and all forms of racism and colonialism.

We believe that it is our particular responsibility to challenge Jewish organizations whose alliances and actions undermine Palestinian human and national rights, promote Jewish exceptionalism, and overturn Jewish social justice traditions. At the heart of our work is the fight for Palestinian liberation and the struggle for a world free of racial and ethnic hierarchy, colonial domination, and unbridled militarism.
_____________

Background:

Global Jews for Palestine initially came together to share our experiences of opposing the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Working Definition of Antisemitism – a document that is being used to shield Israel from valid political challenge and to suppress advocacy for Palestinian rights. Since our founding in 2019, we have come to recognize that our purpose is to be a powerful and effective global Jewish voice advocating for Palestinian liberation.

In the past year, as we have witnessed Israel’s genocide in Gaza and intensified ethnic cleansing in the West Bank, we are more committed than ever to making our voices heard and to standing together with the Palestinian people.

  • I think this is a wonderful and much needed initiative. I’m very grateful to the 25 anti-Zionist Jewish groups – from 20 countries – launching it.

Putting to one side at the moment the powerful, well connected vested interests (eg the UK’s Board of Deputies) hostile to any such programme, Global Jews for Palestine has a fight on its hands to simplify their message enough to put it over in images and sound bites to audiences for whom it is new.

Would going into TV interviews with a poster identifying 2 starved babies, one from Gaza and one from the Warsaw Ghetto, help to explain Global Jews for Palestine’s message “we stand for HUMAN RIGHTS whenever and wherever”?
