Complicity in genocide and apartheid in Gaza: Francesca Albanese’s Report
JVL Introduction
The level of complicity in the Gaza genocide is extraordinary and outlined in some detail in Francesca Albanese’s latest report to the UN Human Rights Council. We have posted before about the UK’s complicity, not least the barely explained flights over Gaza from the RAF base in Akrotiri, Cyprus.(On which there is more information in this Video and report from Palestine Deep Dive.)
Her report is not confined to complicity in the Gaza genocide, there is also long term complicity in the violations of international law in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
Of course, when it comes to complicity no State is more culpable than the USA, not only in terms of supplying the majority of the weapons used by Israel but also constantly vetoing UN calls for ceasefire or any criticism of Israel. In terms of weapons, the report tells us, for example, that “the US has deployed military aircraft, special forces and surveillance drones to Israel, with US surveillance purportedly being used to target Hamas, including in the first raid on Al Shifa hospital.”
We must never forget that all countries are duty bound to prevent genocide, not only have far too many countries done nothing to prevent the genocide but they have been complicit in its execution.
This is quite a long read but invaluable for reference as it is packed with information that we need to keep close when, for example, arguing the case for boycott divestment and sanctions on Israel.

I have long felt that the left in this country have let us down by not questioning the need for Britain’s military base on Cyprus. It is not just a military base it is a military colony, British sovereign territory.
What has a military colony on Cyprus got to do with Britain’s defence or even our role in NATO ? The answer is that it is totally useless for these purposes. The only purpose of a British base on Cyprus is helping out Israel and engaging in regime change in the Middle East. At a time when people cannot get NHS appointments why is that a priority ?
What is the real cost of our colony on Cyprus ? Nobody seems to know.
One thing is absolutely sure our colony on Cyprus does absolutely nothing to make British citizens safe in their beds but not being able to get urgent NHS treatment makes them unsafe.
Sadly I can’t see either Britain or America leading the way in complying with the Special Rapporteur’s recommendations. A sad day for humanity as international human rights are ditched
That was quite a read. Shame on the world.
Paragraph 74 encouraged me in my decision to investigate the possibilities of taking my country, the Netherlands, to court for its complicity in Israel’s war crimes and for violating international law.
Only to take into consideration what Dick Schoof, the last prime minister, said when asked whether he agrees with the UN Human Rights Council that there is a genocide going on in Gaza. His answer: “No.” Period.
When asked about his thoughts on the (Dutch) members of the Aid Flotilla kidnapped by Israel he stated he could understand Israel’s actions since they were in the by Israel determined ‘Red Zone’ (a huge area in international waters, no part of any Israeli jurisdiction) and the Dutch government had issued a so called ‘red travel advice’. Totally acknowledging Israel’s right for piracy in international waters, and not at all supportive of the activists and their motives (breaking the unlawful siege and bringing aid to starving children).
