Palestinians: No permit, No work, No money
JVL Introduction
Israel strangles the Palestinian economy through many means such as restricting or removing Palestinians’ access to their own land, limiting olive harvesting and grazing. In addition, it maintains total control over exports from Palestine which means at the very least time wasted unloading from the Palestinian side and loading onto different vehicles on the Israeli side but can often mean goods left in the sun and ruined. So more and more Palestinians need to work in Israel or in the Settlements but this requires a permit and, if you do have one, it also means checking of permits. This can mean queuing from 2 am (or even sleeping there all night) in the hope of getting through in time to get to work. The war on Gaza since October 2023 led to massive closures of the checkpoints in the West Bank as well as in Gaza.
In addition, Israel has revoked 200,000 permits which means plunging more Palestinians into poverty.
