Impunity will end: Francesca Albanese keeps hopeful

JVL Introduction

It is always worth listening to Francesca Albanese, the UN’s Special Rapporteur for Palestine.  Following a brief introduction that illustrates the impact she has, there is a wide ranging interview with her.  She remains hopeful even in the face of the huge restrictions placed on her (eg she cannot open a bank account anywhere as she relates below).  Among many other things she notes that: “Israel is not exceptional. It must get off its pedestal and realize that while it may still be able to rely on the support of strong leaders, this won’t last forever. Public opinion in Europe is changing, and the fact that the solidarity movement is being severely repressed is not helping to present Israel in a better light.” (My emph Ed)

She goes on to give examples of this repression: “In 2024, Germany arrested more Jewish people than in any other year since the Holocaust. Why? Because they were standing against Israeli violence in Gaza. The UK has been criminalizing pro-Palestine organizations and treating NGOs and journalists as terrorists. France has been banning protests. And Italy is becoming more and more stringent in denying freedom of expression and association.”

  • Francesca Albanese should have been awarded the peace prize for her complete integrity and standing up for the real values of human rights and the ideals of the UN Charter. She should have been awarded utter respect but has been smeared and derided and sanctioned by the real evil mafia entity, the US under Biden and Trump in cahoots with the purveyor of genocide, Israel, still backed to the hilt and continuing its genocide after the ceasefire. Albanese though keeps on with the ideals of ‘No Pasaran’ and the real United Nations. She is the embodiment of the peaceful response to violence and is a true rapporteur.

  • Oct 2023 comment from CEO of Raytheon:
“Raytheon’s CEO said on an earnings call that the company stood to ‘benefit’ from DoD budget increases due to the war in Israel”.

Let it be noted that Raytheon was chosen over Elbit by the UK government when the Palestine Action hunger strikers were nearing death. This was a victory for them but maybe a Pyrrhic one for the rest of us.
