UK complicity in Gaza and the myth of “British democracy”

UK governments complicity with Israel has a long history that the horrors of Gaza are exposing but not shifting. Not only is the UK still selling arms to Israel, still conducting surveillance from a base in Cyprus, it is restricting our civil liberties and will not even put a ban on trade with Israeli settlements that both Labour and Tory governments are clear are illegal. The government has welcomed the Israeli President and banned Palestine Action and continues to support Israel as much as it can while continuing to condemn and sanction Russia for its actions in Ukraine.
The actions – and inactions – of government as well as the coverage of Israel by the legacy media is also exposing many other ways in which our democracy is extremely limited. We are denied information and lack meaningful ways to hold our politicians to account.
This piece touches on many aspects of our loves and we need to be informed and ready to act.

The horror of Israel’s genocide exposes the UK’s oligarchic governance system, and implores us to transform our political system

As far as I know, this is accurate and comprehensive. I imagine the authors could make a similar list for the French who supported the Biafran rebellion and were more complicit in the Rwanda genocide, due largely to their age-old geopolitical rivalry with Britain. The Rwandan case was set out by the Polish journalist Kapuzinscy (excuse spelling).
No one is truly independent, least of all a country that is in hock to great militaristic power. We, as a country, have been since WW11. Blair was the worst Labour Prime Minister ever. Taking us back into debt almost as soon as the “War Debt” was paid off, turning us into a lackey state, subordinate to the American Presidential whims.
The main problem is the Party System putting loyalty to the “Party Line” above everything, including concience, in turn Prime Minister above cabinet, not playing chair’s role representing the cabinet, and the people which is what democracy was meant to be. Thus any manifesto can be subverted by a single person as it has been by Kier Starmer. The Prime Minister taking the role of Caesar. The Highjacking of an elected government is not a new phenomenon, it was most notably done by Hitler in the world recession of the 1930s. We should take note of the fact that everything Hitler ordered was legal, under German Law because he took the steps to make it so. We are on the same path trodden by other fascist Nations.
We have never been truly independent. Wars, and subjugation of other countries and peoples has always been at the behest of some Leader, Kings and emperors. The People being either duped or coerced into serving their purpose, taking the crumbs snatched from others hands.
Few Politicians represent their electorate. Only now with the advance of communications do we get a glimpse of the truth, even then it is the truth that serves those with the power to show it.
This is the peoples Dunkirk! Those who fight then run away, live to fight another day. We must find a different way of opposing the genocide, current strategy is not working.
Democratic governments supposedly accept they’re the servants of the public at large, other forms of government don’t … but in reality there seems to be no difference in their determination to support genocidal, Apartheid Israel regardless of their peoples’ firm opposition. Amazingly, states’ support for Israel hasn’t YET been withdrawn in spite of there being now little benefit and frighteningly high costs accruing from such partisanship.
Israel didn’t have many friends across the globe but used to be able to count on the uncritical support of world superpower America – now it can’t. US politicians are discovering that AIPAC subs and support doesn’t secure their elections (and may harm them). For different reasons, whole blocs of US voters (including the MAGA lot and young and middle aged Jewish Americans) oppose support for Israel and the use of their taxes to pay for its wars). Trump will take any deal that profits him … and at present Arab states offer him more than Israel can.
When the USA disengages with Israel, the train of states normally following its lead will probably do the same. These states are also discovering that America isn’t a trustworthy ally on so many matters – being “good followers” is pointless.
There are also doubts about Israel’s survival prospects. I’ve recently read of Harvard creating an archive on Israel so that if the state does disappear there’ll still be permanent records of it, its history and its institutions. Emigration from Israel is the highest it’s ever been. The Jewish Israeli population seems to be at war within itself. Israel’s mistreatment of Arab Israelis won’t have won it their support. Israel’s economy is failing – it now needs $18 billion p.a. from USA taxes, instead of $3 billion. Its trade is hampered by higher borrowing costs and by other nations (below government level – unions, businesses and ports) taking many different forms of action against it . Israel’s destruction of the Palestinians’ olive trees and their extraction of more water for their own settlements than the land can bear may result in unmanageable climate catastrophe for all.
It is odd that though vocal sections seem strongly opposed to overt foreign influences, our government, official opposition and mainstream media are complicit in support of Israel’s state led genocide of indigenous people as is helped along by Israel’s embedded detrimental influence in our own country.
The Bias in favour of Israel is so obvious, they don’t even bother to make it look unbiased. The MSM, including the BBC, know that the Government is as Biased as them, which clearly makes them relaxed about their Bias.
Note: The War in Ukraine was started by the US, it created the 2014 Coup to oust the elected Leader, because he was not interested in joining NATO. They chose their man in Zelensky, who they paid handsomely, there’s plenty of evidence to prove this. Russia was no threat to Europe, it was trading with it and selling cheap Gas to Germany, France and other EU Countries, until the US had Russia’s Nordstream Gas Pipelines blown up, causing Germany and the other Countries Industries to crash.
If anyone is interested, I have a stack of evidence.
Bernard, you state that you have “a stack of evidence” for your Ukraine narrative. Really? We all missed it so you should use it to support Putin for the Nobel rather than Trump.
As for the BBC, they’ve just had to admit their anti Israel bias so I don’t know what you’re smoking.
And Linda’s contribution is beyond the pale. You know the Nazis founded institutions to memorialize the “extinct” Jewish race and now Harvard, really? Don’t hold your breath on your appalling wishful thinking. Israel has many problems Linda but Am Yisrael Chai. Maybe read the Pesach Hagada to find out how attempts to destroy us always end. Btw How does a Jewish site permit such comments?
