Gaza: western complicity and individual inhumanity
JVL Introduction
This thoughtful, chilling article asks the worrying questions that perhaps we have been too afraid to ask. As well as direct complicity in the pulverisation of Gaza, there has been the clampdown on protest, especially in the USA, UK, Germany and France. To the heinous actions of far too many governments, we can look not only the avid and outspoken supporters of Israel but also those who say nothing and do their utmost to believe the propaganda that Israel and its uncritical supporters provide for the sake of their own careers, even when the reality of the purpose has not been hidden and the genocidal intent has been clear from the very start. What is happening to our societies that is failing to raise human beings? Menschen? We all better understand how people ignored the warning signs that led to the Holocaust and they did not have the advantage of social media showing us the reality despite the fact that no journalists from outside Gaza have been allowed in.
Of course, we rightly highlight those millions across the world who have been consistently taking a stand over the genocide in Gaza and over the ethnic cleansing of the West Bank and its effective annexation clearly articulated by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich who, with Defence Minister Israel Katz proposed the Knesset approval of 19 more settlements in the Occupied West Bank. After the approval, Smotrich stated clearly that the decision aims to block the establishment of a Palestinian State. Presumably this is also the reason for still occupying over 50 of the Gaza Strip and demolishing homes within that space and all since the supposed “ceasefire”. And yet serious plans are afoot to ouitlaw the phrase “from the river to the sea” as antisemitic when used by activists supporting Palestinian rights, including the right to life.
What this article about our societies highlights is a frightening prospect – or rather a frightening reality – that we cannot ignore.

Acutely perceptive.
Thank you very much for publishing this important article.
As a teenager I could not get enough of the books published by John Wyndham whose perception of human societies under duress was exceptional and illuminating. Whilst the perpetrators of those situations eventually were conquered or died there were sparks of genuine humanity and a love of society that won through in the end. I see Israel as a John Wyndham horror plot and I just hope that there are enough Palestinians and supporters to rescue humanity.
