Gaza Tribunal finds UK Complicit in genocide

JVL Introduction

In September the Gaza Tribunal was organised by the Peace and Justice Project set up by Jeremy Corbyn. It found that the UK was complicit in the genocide.  When the Labour government was elected it made only the smallest changes to the UK’s actions regarding Gaza  compared with the previous Tory government; it removed 30 (c 8%) of arms licences and restarted the funding for UNWRA that had been suspended.   The call for an Inquiry into UK complicity was refused by Starmer’s government because  “such an inquiry would be unnecessary as there is no confusion about UK military operations in Gaza.”

Many people found this unsatisfactory (to say the least) and so this Tribunal was set up and over two days the Tribunal members – Jeremy Corbyn, Neve Gordon and Shahd Hammouri heard evidence from a range of witnesses, addressing these questions:

What happened in Gaza? What are Britain’s legal obligations? What has Britain done? And has Britain fulfilled its legal obligations?  You can read the full Report here.
