Led By Donkeys wins compensation over seizure of Gaza protest banner

A small but important victory for the right to protest as Led by Donkeys receive full compensation for the destruction of one of their giant banners, removed after a protest in Parliament Square.

As the right to protest is whittled away in response to the ongoing strength of the movement in solidarity with Palestine it is good for the authorities to realise they can’t simply do whatever they want with impunity.

As Haroon Siddique, Legal affairs correspondent of Guardian points out, drawing on the work of Forensic Architecture and the European Legal Support Center, Britain is right up there in the “index of repression” with more than 900 recorded instances of solidarity actions being silenced, criminalised or sanctioned over the last six years.
