Calling Israeli Apartheid What It Is

JVL Introduction

Michael Lynk, seventh United Nations Special Rapporteur for the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, came into office opposed to using the term “apartheid” to describe Israeli rule over the Occupied Palestinians.

He explains here why he has changed his mind.

You can download Lynk’s final report to the UN here as well as watching a short video of him summarising his argument below.

  • One wonders why then Ben Stiller a Zionist supporter is a ” UN special ambassador “..
The UN have condemned #Israel for its apartheid regime and for its war crimes in #Palestine.
Talk about keeping your foot in both camps..

  • If this is apartheid, then it is an extreme form. By contrast South Africa was almost a kindly state. I don’t remember refugee camps being bombed.

  • @cathy – So you are saying that a Zionist, and Ben Stiller openly promotes Israel and has high profile visits there, cannot be employed in any UN role such as Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR? UNHCR does not deal with Palestinian refugees in the main as UNRWA does, so not a direct conflict of interest. And the role doesn’t influence UN policy. And yet. But it would be hard to have a practical test of how Zionist someone had to be to be disqualified from a UN job, without it becoming antisemitic in practice.

  • I agree with Paul France.
As I see it, Israel completely fit the title of being an Apartheid State, in fact, it’s worse than just being called a Apartheid State. It’s actions against Palestinians break International Laws every day.
If it wasn’t for Israel’s Lobby, it would have had sanctions against it decades ago. We must keep up the campaigning and show the world the evidence of its heinous crimes against Palestinians.
