Landmark Palestinian Coalition report on Israeli Apartheid

JVL Introduction

In an important development, a comprehensive coalition of Palestinian human-rights groups have collaborated on a report about Israeli apartheid.

Too often in the field of progressive politics, Westerners speak for oppressed peoples, drowning out their own authentic contributions to important discussions that concern them directly.

This landmark publication, from the heart of Palestinian society, makes a distinctive contribution to the international debate by examining “apartheid as a structural element of furthering Zionist settler colonialism on both sides of the Green Line and against the Palestinian people as a whole”.

  • Interesting. At 200+ pages will take some reading. Meanwhile I have shared the information widely on *lefty* sites that I post to.

  • This inhuman situation has its root cause in socially conditioned mistaken identity. Who has ever had the choice in the time and place of their birth?
We are denied the obvious, that all humans share exactly the same ancestors, so that makes us more than just a species, we are in fact one human family.
Family is our common, shared identity, with that irrefutable fact acknowledged, it would be impossible to oppress, exploit or abuse in any way those we identify with.

  • Report isn’t as long as it looks as main text starts on p.16 and extensive footnotes and graphics, so didn’t take long to read. Brilliant report.

  • Help please! I really do not understand why pro-Palestinian groups are not prepared to recognise the Crime Against Humanity of ethnic cleansing being carried out against the Palestinians. Calling acts of ethnic cleansing “apartheid” which is also (an arguably lesser and), a more subject-to-debate Crime Against Humanity, seems to let the Israeli authorities off the hook.
The British and other Governments have brushed-off accusations of apartheid against Israel. Could they as easily dismiss charges of ethnic cleansing especially when confronted by inevitable deaths of those resisting the ethnic cleansing colonists?

The “Palestinian Coalition Report” on apartheid in Israel speaks of “forced expulsion”; “annexation”; “transfer and expulsion” and “settler colonialism” among other euphemisms for ethnic cleansing – a widely recognised Crime Against Humanity. Given this, I find it frustrating that even pro-Palestinian groups are determined to use a variety of euphemisms rather than “ethnic cleansing” which is a more permanent and harder-to-reverse crime than apartheid.

Colonising and “settling” occupied land is illegal under international law, but I don’t think that this is classed as a Crime Against Humanity whereas ethnic cleansing IS. Barring people from areas of their homeland and their coercive or forced removal or expulsion on the basis of their ethnicity or religion in order to set up Jews-only or Zionist-only colonies is blatant ethnic cleansing, so why all the euphemisms from pro-rights groups?

  • For propganda purposes these International bodies can be appealed to to act. Meanwhile, US and Western imperialism have control of these bodies and as imperialism is in desperate need of Israel to act as their cop in the Middle East, also as a highly proficient info obtainer cum corrupter, and also in view of the fact that the US provides “Israel” with $5bn of military aid annually — then there should be no expectation of success in appealing to these imperialist-controlled institutions. Instead mass action across North Africa and the Middle East should be organised, whether eg the Saudi and Egyptian repressive regimes like it or not.
These said institutions have for decades proved utterly useless in pursuing and implementing their very own International Laws in respect to the Palestinians and Zionist “Israel”, whose key institutions dealing with the Palestinians are now populated with numerous fascists.

    — For regional mass action as the only means to resolve the plight of the Palestinians against the Zionist bantustaners!

  • I am on the same pages as John Hall and Howard Voris.
We must highlight the Atrocities, the murders, the regular bombing of Gaza, the turning off of its Energy and Water Supplies in an attempt to wear them down, so that they leave, this is all part of their ethnic cleansing.
Here’s a post that I have shared many times.
Gaza fighting against a nonstop Tsunami of violence inhuman treatment by Israel.
