Election 2024 – For The Many

For solidarity and unity

This election provides the country with a crucial opportunity to end the dire procession of Tory governments which has brought it so low over the last 14 years.

In the weeks till July 4, Jewish Voice for Labour will aim to amplify the voices of those working against the odds to build a principled movement – not only against the Tories, but also to challenge the unjust distribution of power and wealth both in our society and globally.

In particular, given the circumstances of JVL’s origins and growth, we will be maintaining our active campaigning against the ongoing genocide in Gaza, and for an end to the Israeli impunity which allows justice for Palestinians to be denied. We will continue to call out the deployment of false antisemitism allegations to demonise anti-racist human rights campaigners and to undermine freedom of expression.

For socialists, internationalists, labour movement and environment activists, indeed all who challenge inequality in society, this election needs to be seen in the context of  our ongoing efforts to foster the grassroots mobilisation which alone can give a solid base to any advances. This must continue beyond polling day.

At this stage JVL is not endorsing specific candidates. As a contribution to movement building we will be opening our blog and social media to a range of contributions about the choices in front of us, and the principles, policies, strategy and tactics which are needed to empower people in their communities and to build solidarity and unity across our movement.

The message which inspired millions between 2015 and 2019 must not be erased from the political agenda. For the Many, not the Few!

  • might we be advised to vote for others apart from labour party candidates in an effort to defeat the tories but also support those who are actively engaged in supporting freedom for palestine, an end to the slaughter and also positive effort to reinvigorate the environmental movement/green policies. sometimes if we vote green we end up supporting the tories! and nowadays if we vote labour we end up with supporting a very unethical stand on too many issues!

  • This is all as it should be, though it is sad that in the state of our country it needs to be said.

  • “At this stage JVL is not endorsing specific candidates”.
    Why not?
Do we want the Tories to continue? No.
Do we want Starmer to continue with purging the left? No.
Any vote for Labour will strengthen Starmer’s resolve to crush anybody on the left.

  • Could it not be the case for the upcoming election that, as in the US, both the leading parties are being bankrolled by the same ‘few’? No party, happy to be complicit in the Gaza genocide should be voted for, though, sadly, as the old anarchist saying goes, ‘If voting changed anything ‘they’d’ ban it!’.

  • As Norman Finklestein pointed out – be careful to avoid a slogan that can’t be twisted. It’s sounds trivial, and it should be trivial. Unfortunately…

  • I greatly appreciate JVL’s principled stand on the election. As well as good policies, it has a moral foundation which conspicuously absent in the main parties’ promotions.
A possible outcome is a hung Parliament in which Labour has to form a coalition with Greens, Independents, Lib Dems and SNP.
That wouldn’t be a bad outcome.

  • One choice is to actively oppose candidates who are supporting a genocide. From whatever party. And especially where they have been imposed.

  • I’m not Jewish or of any religion & if a person needs a religion then that’s their choice, but JVL has been & still is a font of knowledge, approaching 76 soon I have read so much history & political shenanigans, misinformation about many things like Judaism , Socialism!
As a refugee of a mother who at nine was transported with her Polish mother, my Babcia , across Siberia from Poland I have heard all the horror stories through whispers at night when I should have been asleep.
To this day I cannot understand the Philosophy of Zionism or Fascism!
Having lived at a time in London with refugees from everywhere the people were so varied, foods, languages so varied , Yiddish, Polish,Austrian , etc was amazing I loved it all, poverty was rife but so was the laughter & Aldgate smelt of so many different foods despite the struggle & poverty in poor housing! People from all over the world lived in London & had to get on.
All cultures have something to offer !
Wars are brutal & brutal people make money from wars!
For me Labour & Starmer are not in anyway associated with people any more. Starmer has lost the plot entirely & gone to the dark side, his confirmation of being a Zionist has done more harm than good & he himself has increased antisemitism!
His loyalty is not to the British people his loyalty is in Zionist Israel & to Biden whose mind has wandered off the grid!
    What happened to Labours motto
“ to support the OPPRESSED & NOT THE OPPRESSOR “???
Thank you JVL for all your work.
