Palestinian election candidate attacked for solidarity concert appearance

Perspectives on the 2024 General Election (26)

Tanushka Marah is a distinguished theatre director based in Brighton where she is widely respected for her work fostering community engagement through the arts. She is a British Palestinian, a socialist and an independent parliamentary candidate in the UK general election. She’s been running a vibrant campaign in Hove and Portslade, standing against the incumbent MP Peter Kyle, a staunch member of Labour Friends of Israel. On Friday  June 21, she appeared alongside fellow independent candidates Leanne Mohamad, who is also British Palestinian, and Andrew Feinstein who is Jewish, at a solidarity concert in London with Roger Waters, Yusuf Cat Stevens and Lowkey.

On June 23, she was surprised to see on X (formerly Twitter) that a group calling itself Sussex Jewish Representative Council had withdrawn an invitation to take part in an election hustings they had organised, “as we have publicly seen and heard enough from her” and “we do not need to give her hate a platform in our safe space.”
“I was baffled to see this as I replied immediately to accept. I wrote twice more to ask questions. I checked just now to see that the email was incorrectly addressed. However I would like to accept and have sent email, it is 1 week away. Without dialogue there is always division.”
Now Middle East Eye have taken up her story which we are pleased to post below.
Details of Tanushka Marah’s election campaign are available here.
