Starmer’s Broken Promises
JVL Introduction
We are sorry to have to post this catalogue of (some of) the lies, backtracking and broken promises from Sir Keir Starmer but it is necessary. I am sure there are other promises he has broken and worry that we may have got too used to them. One of the key promises he made to the Party was to work for unify and yet even at the eleventh hour he continues to try to purge left wing MPs and candidates; if some supporters of Starmer were given seats to stand in before the NEC meeting, why not Diane Abbott for her own seat? And Starmer had previously said: “selections for Labour candidates needs to be more democratic and we should end NEC impositions of candidates. Local Party members should select their candidates for every election.”
He broke his pledges to get elected as Leader; he gives as his reason that this is because there is no longer the money to meet these pledges whereas many of those did not require additional funds, for example not selling arms to states violating international law would not cost and, indeed the promise to raise taxes on the very richest in our society would raise revenue.
(Nearly) everyone is desperate to see the back of this heinous Tory government but it is crucial that we understand who Sir Keir Starmer is. It is hard to say what he stands for, but we do know that a Labour government under this leadership is not capable of transforming people’s lives and, for so many people this is what is needed. Our work will continue from July 5th.

Starmer's Broken Promises
It’s not circumstances that have forced the Labour leader to backtrack. It’s the fact that he pretended to be someone he isn’t to win power, argues Angus Satow.

I think Starmer learnt from Andy Burnham’s failed election campaign in 2015. Burnham was the initial favourite to win having some charisma and coming from the left. However, in his campaign he seemed to tone down some of his views to avoid antagonising the media too much – a big tactical error. For example, he rejected the so-called ‘Manson Tax’ which had been in Labour’s recent manifesto calling it the ‘politics of envy’ and avoided getting the support of UNITE which then went on to support Corbyn. If he had come up with a set of leadership pledges like Starmer’s and campaigned vigorously on them he might well have won and even led Labour to victory in 2017. So Starmer learnt from this and deliberately and ruthlessly targeted Labour members with policies they wanted to hear in order to win. He then completely abandoned them once he got the leadership as was always his intention as well as now driving out as many members on the left as he can get away with.
Starmer made those pledges with NO intention of keeping them.. He LIED.. he also broke the ministerial code of Conduct by refusing to reveal his Donors.. He ‘Won’ by Deception & Treachery..
