Starmer accused of ‘gaslighting’ on Palestinian statehood recognition

JVL Introduction

Starmer,  it is claimed, will take a big step forward and put into recognition of Palestine “before the end of any peace process” into the Labour Party manifesto.

Big fucking deal!

The manifesto Starmer stood on pledged to recognise a Palestinian state immediately. Labour reiterated this in 2022.

This is a massive retreat, not a step forward. It was Ed Miliband who secured a nonbinding parliamentary resolution backing recognition of a Palestinian state back in 2014.

To say now you will recognise Palestine before the end of any peace process, is to kick the question into the long grass.

Immediate recognition is the minimal requirement needed to trigger any hope of a peace process, non-existent for the past decade or more.

  • Starmer’s statement is just a way of saying that a Labour government will play no role in any “peace process” but simply follow US policy. It represents a complete political abdication.
The decision of Norway and other nations to recognise Palestine is a small but important step towards a positive outcome of such a process, which, after all, does not consist only of behind-doors negotiation but rather of such diplomatic moves as recognition.
The Labour leadership represents on this issue a comprehensive moral and political capitulation.

  • My understanding is that Labour will not repeal the Conservative law on ID requirements before people are allowed to vote. This is a blatant copy of a Republican vote suppression technique imported from the USA.

  • Even Starmer’s wife must be worried at how easily her husband finds it to Lie.
He really is a traitor to Socialism, I still remember asking members of our Branch,, who is this MP that’s out campaigning for Owen Smith in his Leadership challenge against Corbyn, after he had doubled the membership. It was Starmer, he’d only been an MP for two years, after Ed Miliband had given him a safe Labour seat.
I reminded people again on Facebook during the last Leadership Contest not to trust him. He is clearly being advised by Mandelson and others that are very anti Socialism.
So many times when he’s being asked questions on TV, you can see he’s struggling on any awkward questions. He’s a Zionist supporter without qualification and supports Israel, worse still he’s the leader of our LP, which he refers to as ‘His Party’!!

  • Of course Starmer will go back on any promise to recognise a Palestinian State. He is a liar and a self confessed proud Zionist but only admitted this after he was elected leader. He also refused to say who funded his leadership campaign I wonder why .
