Labour’s “undemocratic, multimillionnaire-funded structure”
JVL Introduction
Solomon Hughes has been writing about corporate influence in politics for twenty years, mostly for Private Eye. In this article for Tribune he focuses on Starmer’s Labour, describing the influence of Labour Together in creating “an alternative, undemocratic, multimillionaire-funded structure which weaves through the top layers of the party.”
Hughes suggests that this could insulate a Starmer government from the discontent likely to be generated as recognition grows that his programme – involving taxpayer support for favoured companies and public sector cuts – copies Tory economic policy too closely to deal with Britain’s multiple crises.

Behind Labour Together
Since running Keir Starmer’s fraudulent leadership campaign, Labour Together has raised staggering sums of money from exploitative businessmen to staff the offices of MPs — shaping party policy in the interests of its mega-rich donors.

This is the same thing that Keir Starmer did with the Labour Party. He inherited a positive bank balance from Corbyn. He then used it to pay off his supporters who had been sueing the Labour Party, even though the legal advice was that the Labour Party would probably win. Then there were numerous court cases from members protesting against expulsion. Win or lose (and you get both) it all means a transfer of wealth to the lawyers. Within a couple of years, the Labour Party had lost its financial surplus. This was criticised by some on the Left, and others. But I believe that it was all part of the plan. Labour is now funded by a few high-net-worth individuals. If Labour loses them now, it will have very little. So any future Labour leader will be faced with a choice: continued funding by rich people, or no funding at all. It is an attempt to lock in the current set-up.
you forgot to mention the funds from the Israeli lobby led by Trevor Chinn who also funds BICOM and “We Believe in Israel”. This strange organisation is headed by Luke Akehurst who has been parachuted in to be candidate for North Durham despite living in Oxford. His first appearance in constituency needed a police presence
This researched article follows the now familiar story of how the Labour Party has been changed for the worse, inclusive of the old habit of the hierarchy being welcoming to big money from the rich to buy influence. Meanwhile the Labour Party’s infamously right-wing staff continually pester the rest of us with begging letters which coolly repeat the outrageous lie that Starmer changed the Party to serve working people.
