The Israel Lobby in panic (and perplexed) mode.

Young American Jews are distancing themselves more and more from identification with Israel and this is causing a crisis in the Israel lobby and in Jewish Establishment organisations.  This is to be welcomed not least because, as noted here, “Whatever ideals Zionism embraced at its origin as a European liberation movement, it solidified into bigotry in the face of Palestinian resistance. The official Jewish community promoted that bigotry”. 

The pulverisation of Gaza and all that has come from that has accelerated this distancing but it is not a new phenomenon (see, eg this opinion piece from an edition of the Jerusalem Post from May 2023, 5 months before the Hamas led attack on Israel).  In New York, where it is estimated that 30% of Jews voted for Zohran Mamdani, it is possible that as many as 80% of New York Jews aged under 30 voted for him.  This has sent shockwaves through Jewish organisations, liberal and conservative who have been backing the occupation and the racist policies of the actual living example of zionism and the lobby is not sure what to do; its tactics are no longer working as they did.
