Jews say Mazeltov and Mabrouk to Mamdani

JVL Introduction

Despite the millions of dollars donated by billionaires and he scaremongering (not least by the Jewish Establishment) to try to defeat him, Mamdani won with just over 50% of the vote. Amongst those who voted for him and were excited by his victory were 33% of the Jews who live in New York City and over 60% of younger Jews.  This shows many things including that more and more Jews (as we know) will not only not be put off by a candidate who advocates for Palestine but see that as a key and positive part of his stance.

Mamdani was a leader in his own University’s Students for Palestine organisation and now, the very thing that was so feared by Israel and its uncritical advocates has come to pass, someone who had developed through that movement has an important elected post.

Beth Miller from Jewish Voice for Peace said: “”Jewish New Yorkers were part of the broad and multiracial coalition that rejected racism and Islamophobia, and fought to elect a mayor who will fight with us for the humanity, dignity, and freedom of all people – no exceptions.”  This seems to be the most important aspect and a fine counter to Trump’s antisemitic statement that Jews who voted for Mamdani were “stupid”!

We are delighted to add our own Mazel Tovs to those of our sister organisations and others in the USA.

  • I believe over one hudred million dollars was spent in a compaign to smear Mamdani. Most of the cash came from outside New York City billionaires. It didn’t work. I draw a parallel here with what happened when Corbyn stood for the Labour leadership. Similar smear compaign was orchestrated by the media and politicians. That didn’t work either.
