Zionism is as Zionism does
JVL Introduction
Israel’s brutality in Gaza over the past six months has generated wider revulsion and condemnation than at any time in its 76-year history. But even as large numbers of Jewish people have joined the multitudes of protesters around the world demanding an end to collective punishment and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, most Zionists seem determined to refuse to see what is happening, or to keep trying to justify the unjustifiable.
Ben Reiff writing in The Pickle argues that “however liberal its adherents may be, Zionism is inherently rooted in the idea that Palestinian lives are worth less than Jewish-Israeli ones.”
Unlike most commentators raised to regard loyalty to Israel as integral to their DNA, Reiff is clear-eyed about how utterly unjustifiable this position is. He concludes:
“When the war in Gaza eventually ends, the full scale of the horror becomes clear, and the survivors are left to pick up whatever pieces remain of their obliterated homes and shattered souls, there will surely be liberal Zionists who will wonder how on earth they could’ve ever supported it. For the Palestinians who’ve lost everything, this belated soul-searching won’t mean much.”

Six months of liberal Zionist doublethink
Since 7 October, the principal dividing line on Israel-Palestine has been supporting or opposing a ceasefire. For a faction accustomed to taking the middle ground, that has posed a unique dilemma.

Christian Zionists like Joe Biden devoutly want Jews (Zionists) to colonise “Palestinian Zion” to fulfil a condition paving the way for the Second Coming.
Don’t ignore or forget.
Political Zionism, as we have been observing it in action, is a vile philosophy.
The oppressive State of Israel portrays itself as the perpetual victim. Our establishment politicians and dominating mass media keep up this facade.
I asked my father why he had always turned down work in the Middle East and Latin America. He replied that if you are part of an agenda that is stealing other people’s land and resources, and giving them no recourse, you could end up waking up in the middle of the night with a knife to your throat and your family are already gone. Was he an “apologist” for people who would slaughter his family? Is basic intuition completely dead?
That this it’s just Israel v Hamas – I’m pretty sceptical. The border had collapsed and revenge was now a possibility, for anyone wanting to even up the score . The oppressed have their sociopaths too, fact of life, and that they have been triggered goes without saying. The Hamas fighters would have, initially, expected to get killed a long time before the opportunity arose to invade the festival. To imagine that others wouldn’t also join in, crossing after them is plain dumb. Strange how “understanding” we are about bloody revenge when the people doing it are the ones most like us. People here have got the likes of Braverman playing them. But they need to examine the consequences of having mediocre shills occupying every position, whose number one skill is to intuit the lies required of them. It’s not just in politics. Every corporate sociopath will be using this as another card with which to trounce his rivals. There is still long way to go down the slippery slope. The UK is rapidly becoming a tragic loss.
