Antisemitism on the right – and on the left?

However, antisemitism needs to be addressed if we are to end attacks such as in Manchester and on Bondi Beach this year or other attacks in the not too distant past.  Here Julia raises important points not only about antisemitism from the far right but its use by some on the left. The Far Right have never stopped being antisemitic even though many of them will support Israel and then get support from Jewish Establishment figures as well as from political leaders in Israel.

Settler violence IS Israeli violence

This article tells us in stomach churning detail about the reality of settler attacks for Palestinians under attack and activists trying to support them.  A key point is that the Israeli Army =, at best, does nothing but is more likely to facilitate and protect the attackers.  This is all part of the strategy of expansion and de facto annexation. 

2024 – a record year for the Israeli Arms Trade

Israel is happily marketing its “battle tested” weaponry around the world and, with notable exceptions, the world seems happy to buy them, leading to a 13% increase in defence exports during 2024 while the genocide continued with intensity in Gaza.  Specialists believe that those buying weapons during a “plausible” genocide know that buying weapons in such circumstances is illegal as they are bound under international law to prevent genocide.  And yet demand from Europe has accelerated with “exports increasing to 54 percent of the total from 36 percent in 2023.”

Jews celebrating festival of light declare “Zionists don’t speak for me”

Hundreds of Jews gathered in Trafalgar Square on December 22 for an event organised by Jewish Anti-Zionist Action (JAZA) joined by others from the Jewish Bloc to mark the end of Channukah, the festival of light.

Their message was one of solidarity with the people of Palestine and with the young activists on hunger strike in British jails, risking their lives for taking action against the Israeli genocide.

Chants such as ZIONISTS DON’T SPEAK FOR ME, PALESTINE WILL BE FREE gave the lie to the pervasive myth associating all Jews with the settler colonial project.

Settler violence, the USA, UN and international law

“Israeli Settlements are not the product of religious zealotry alone, nor are they spontaneous acts of extremism. They are a systematic material process — a political economy of accumulation organised through dispossession. Land is confiscated, movement is controlled, water is monopolised, … Entire communities are fractured into isolated enclaves, engineered to be economically dependent, politically fragmented, and permanently insecure. Violence by settlers operates within this system as a functional tool: it terrorises, clears land, and accelerates territorial consolidation while allowing the formal state to maintain a posture of deniability.” 

Gaza: western complicity and individual inhumanity

This thoughtful, chilling article asks the worrying questions that perhaps we have been too afraid to ask.  As well as direct complicity in the pulverisation of Gaza, there has been the clampdown on protest, especially in the USA, UK, Germany and France.  To the heinous actions of far too many governments, we can look not only the avid and outspoken supporters of Israel but also those who say nothing and do their utmost to believe the propaganda that Israel and its uncritical supporters provide for the sake of their own careers, even when the reality of the purpose has not been hidden and the genocidal intent has been clear from the very start. 

Isolate Israel for the sake of peace

Israel’s plans to annex the West Bank and, if possible Gaza too are continuing apace with little more than occasional diplomatic “tuts”.  As the writer says: ” Netanyahu’s core objective is ensuring that international law is never implemented, that no semblance of Palestinian sovereignty is established, and that Israel can contravene the law at a time and manner of its choosing.”
