Vindictive, inhumane policy towards asylum seekers reinforced against all the evidence

JVL Introduction

A Bedfordshire pilot scheme funded by the Home Office to trial better ways of handing refugees and asylum seeker proved effective, humane and cost less than half what it currently takes to keep them in detention.

It appears to have been rejected out of hand by the Home Office, clinging to Suella Braverman’s desperate narrative of ‘invasion’ by ‘scary migrants’.

Surely it is time for Labour to adopt a principled opposition to government plans on asylum, one based on  compassion for human beings and a commitment to ending the Hostile Environment.
