Saying NO to Mahmood turning asylum seekers into strangers

There have been many articles written since the proposals on asylum seekers were announced. These articles highlight some of the many things that are wrong and dangerous about these proposals. We have chosen this article to post in full,  in part because it includes a call out to the left to act.  At the end of the article are a number of links with introductions that are also important and from their titles alone, it is easy to see that our anger at the proposals is shared by many others, including many Labour MPs.

We  note the welcome the Tories and Reform have given to the proposals has been met with “but they do not go far enough”.  Clearly pandering to the right does not work, they will always push further. Tommy Robinson said this shows that “the Overton Window has been obliterated” and he is right on this one thing; the politics of the right have become so normalised that not only do we see little compassion for vulnerable people but it has become unthinkable to talk about the real cause of shortages, the cost of living crisis, austerity and pressure on public services, which is not about asylum seekers but how the economy and politics are organised in the interests of the few and not the many.
