The Illegality of the Illegal Migrants Act
JVL Introduction
The “Illegal Migration Bill” now only awaits Royal Assent to become law. The UN states that this “is at variance with the country’s obligations under international human rights and refugee law and will have profound consequences for people in need of international protection”
Similar warnings have been issued at every stage from the initial proposals on (see eg this detailed analysis from Freedom from Torture). Today a boat was on its way to Dorset to “house” 500 refugees although some Ports refuse access to such ships; .meanwhile the Home Secretary still dreams of sending refugees to Rwanda,
JVL has added our name to this call for anti-racist immigration and nationality laws and added: “Jewish people know too well what it means to be a migrant or refugee fleeing oppression. In the 1930s, most countries denied entry to desperate Jewish people trying to flee the Nazi regime; that same denial is happening now, just to different desperate people. International laws were created post WW2 to stop that but these laws are being ignored. The hostile environment needs to end…”
We will continue to work with antiracist and refugee supporting organisations to oppose this Act.
