Government attacks on migrant rights intensify

JVL Introduction

A useful compilation of new anti-migrant government measures and reactions against them, prepared by Mike Phipps of Labour Hub.

These include a decision that all new refugees can only stay temporarily, to be reviewed every six months; a clampdown on study visas; and a higher standard of English.

As reported at gov.uk, “Most foreign nationals applying for settlement must now meet the new A-level equivalent standard, raised from the current GCSE level.” One wonders how many native born Brits might fail the test!

An immediate backlash came from Labour MPS, over a hundred of whom made it clear that the proposals undermined the government’s own commitment to integration and social cohesion.

Jeremy Corbyn from Your Party was particularly scathing about the effects of these proposed new resections on migrants.

Does Shabana Mahmood really believe she can outflank Reform from their right?

  • “Those fleeing disaster and conflict deserve certainty and dignity, not repeated questioning of their right to feel safe…”

This government promotes conflicts through arms sales and also through its lack of concern about global warming and then has the nerve to vilify people who wish to escape these problems. Given a choice, most people would probably prefer to stay where they are.
