Here is Amira Hass’s vivid account of what ‘Occupation’ actually means. At such moments the precise label you pin on the regime ceases to be important.
What we see here is outrageous cruelty and denial of the humanity of the rural Palestinians whose land and lives are controlled by the Israeli army and their best friends, the settlers.
The “light unto nations”, promised in Israel’s Declaration of Independence, is dark indeed.

All these terrible stories, one after the other, wear you down mentally. We are helpless, there’s nothing significant that we can do, all the petition signing in the world isn’t going to change a thing. Every week you are more than likely to read about another heinous crime, whether its a murder, a bulldozing of a village or Palestinian’s home, a mob of settlers beating up Palestinian farmers or even another spell of missiles destroying tower blocks, a school, a hospital a factory or even a mixture of all of them, being shared right across Social Media and you read nothing about it in the MSM and if it does get onto the BBC News, they frame it with sentences like Israeli settlers, the Israeli Defence Forces etc, “retaliated”!!
Is there no avenue for those that care, where we make some progress???
BDS is one non-violent (the only one?) means of eventually affecting Israeli policy. However, the Tory government is pushing through a bill designed to prevent this, with no decisive opposition from Keir Starmer’s version of Labour. The bill must not be made law, or repealed if passed. At my CLP I proposed a motion for conference to oppose the ‘anti-BDS bill’ and surprisingly was successfully passed. Will it be debated in September and if so will it be successful only to be ignored in the manner of a BDS motion voted for at the 2021 conference?
I too get so despondent at each incident reported. Does anyone know the answer….please.
