Review of “Prevent” set to encourage the far right
JVL Introduction
Leaks about the recommendations of the review of the Prevent strategy do not augur well.
The “independent” reviewer of Prevent is Sir William Shawcross, who has repeatedly made dangerous comments on Islam, Muslims and migrants.
As a result of his appointment human rights groups including Amnesty International, Liberty and many more, boycotted the review, as did 400 Muslim groups in an unprecedented coalition.
The leaks suggest, says Ilyas Nagdee, there will be a retreat from the supposed ‘equal opportunity counter-extremism’ approach of recent years, towards an explicit focus on Muslims.
It will “give the far-right more space to spread their vitriol” and could lead to the mass referral of children, especially Muslim children, to the programme in ever increasing numbers.

Prevent Reform Is the Latest Tory Gift to the Far-Right
The government’s review of the Prevent strategy will downplay the threat of the far-right while targeting social justice campaigns – the latest example of the Tories bringing extremist views into the mainstream.

I remember an episode of Yes Prime Minister where Sir Humphrey explains to Hacker how to get the result you want out of an enquiry into a cock-up. First, you rig the parameters, but most importantly, you appoint to chair the panel someone who is “sound”.
Theresa May was never referred to Prevent for this murderous boast:
