Twenty years ago today London was shattered and its people shocked by four bomb attacks on its public transport. In the time since what has been the experience for Muslim people living in the UK. This article outlines some of the issues of concern, including the introduction and use of the Prevent programme. There are some improvements noted, such as greater participation in public life but overall things seem to have worsened.
These are sombre things on which we all need to reflect and then continue to work to defeat Islamophobia.

I know from muslim friends that the repression on their saying anything at all about Gaza is unrelenting and intense. They are threatened with losing their jobs much sooner, and face a range of palpable threats. So in that context, I personally can’t help seeing the memorials for 7/7 and the constant programming of WW2/holocaust films on TV as an ongoing attack on muslims as well of course as all supporters of Palestinians. But we have it comparatively easier. I can’t imagine what it is like to be targeted almost every day — not only for what one does, but for what one is. Our parents and grandparents certainly knew and experienced this.
Why is this article here – I thought the website discussed matters pertaining to Jews and Israel? Have there been any articles about anti Hindu / Buddha racism?
We are socialists and so concerned about a range of issues that affect people and, as Jews, this certainly includes trying to tackle all forms of racism. Addressing Islamophobia in the UK (as this is where we are based) has always been a concern. We wish we had more space and capacity to carry more posts about issues internationally.
