Racism in Britain today – stark results of new survey

There are worrying results from research commissioned by long running Black newspaper “The Voice”. These include that c. 39% of young Black Britons do not feel they belong in the UK and plan to leave because of the depths of racism. This article includes links to the full report and to a special issue of the newspaper that merit further reading.
This is one of many articles from the special edition and focuses on increased emigration. The report covers so much more but we recall the emphasis given to the assertion that nearly 40% of British Jews would leave if Corbyn became Prime Minister; a quick search produces many articles and pronouncements by government Ministers. What is being said about this research? Or will it be virtually ignored other than a couple of articles? Is this another dreadful example of the hierarchy of racism that continues in the Labour Party and in far too many institutions in the country?

Well may be Diane Abbott’s letter was just describing racism as it really exists in the UK and Starmer’s attitude is blatant racism. The fact that neither the media nor anyone else has challenged him shows how engrained it is in society. The Forde report has been buried.
When Racism is used by politicians, it has a big impact on people that normally don’t have racist mindsets. The Brexit campaign was a catalyst to create racism by politicians that wanted to leave the EU, the Tories did not use the EU rules which allowed countries to have some controls on the numbers entering the Country, which actually created huge problems across the Country regarding renting and even buying properties, house prices rocketed as speculators were buying up properties to rent out, as numbers of migrants grew, the demand went up, it was the same for wages, they were being depressed by the cheap labour, the Tories used the argument that it was the EU’s fault, the Press had a field day pumping out the propaganda line that it was the migrants fault, so they had their referendum and I don’t have to tell you what happened, not only that vote leave won but there was definitely people saying racist comments, not out and out racist comments but certainly negative comments. The real racists felt that they could say and do what they like, often repeating words they had read in their newspapers.
Then there is all the vile language that is being used over and over again by the politicians and the Press regarding the boat people, “They are the enemy, most of them are economic migrants etc, etc”. I’ve had too many arguments with people quoting the Mail, Sun and other newspapers, on the most commented statement, “Why don’t they stop in the first safe Country they arrive in”? Me, “Because the most taught and spoken language in other Countries is English, a major asset if you are seeking sanctuary and you want to work for a living”!! Yes, Politicians and backed up by the Press created a groundswell of hyped up Racism.
THIS IS ABOSOLUTLEY A CURRENT PHENOMENON. My godson has gone to Africa, starting with Senegal as he has a friend there. I don’t know if or when he will return to the UK. His sister, my goddaughter, is rooted in East London working for the NHS, but has endured police harassment in the past and had to clear her name. Meanwhile I’m waiting on the phone for reconnecting my hijacked mail and Virgin is playing Rap music — talk about performative! Along with the facade of ‘diversity’ in media and above all in advertising images, this is an attempt to mask a very different reality. However I would also like to draw attention to the very varied experiences of returnees to the Caribbean where there is also occasional resentment of incomers; and even more to the ethical issues of returning to Africa. CLR James opposed this strongly. Liberia tragically reproduced some structures of slavery and is only just emerging. Gambia is also problematic. But what choices do young Black British feel they have? This is such an important report, thanks JVL for publicising it. Agreed that the media silence is shocking.
