Gypsy, Roma, Traveller people – discrimination continues in the UK

JVL Introduction

JVL has previously published information on the disadvantages faced by the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller (GRT) Communities and recent research, findings from which are outlined in this article,  shows that this is persisting.  We also know that it is largely being ignored and that recent legislation will make it even harder for  GRT communities to live in their traditional ways.

The research found levels of assaults and ill health were higher than for any other ethnicity.  We must continue to publicise these facts, campaign for better treatment – and attitudes as well resisting all efforts to divide us and emphasising that we are stronger together.

  • In the GRT Community a lot of time is spent avoiding who you are, shielding yourself against the public who all too often think it’s acceptable to discriminate and abuse them
We will not make progress until these hate crimes are prosecuted and publicised
Not least some of our legislators, would make very good high profile cases
