I point out that these roads all lead back to Palestine not to make a rhetorical point, but to show the path to the only way these global shockwaves can be reversed. The absence of peace and self-determination for the Palestinian people is the original sin; all flows from there. Netanyahu prefers to be in a costly state of wars with seemingly no end rather than see a free Palestine. His government has yoked Israel, the Middle East and the entire world to this expanding crisis, rather than solve the fundamental issue.

A petition calling for a formal UK government apology for Britain’s role in Palestine from 1917-1948 is backed by dozens of MPs. “The lead petitioner is Palestinian philanthropist Munib Al Masri (now 91 years old), who at age 13 was shot by British soldiers and witnessed repeated violence against his community. He is joined by 13 other petitioners from a range of backgrounds. ” Britain needs to acknowledge its historic role as a colonial power “administering” Palestine, not least with the edicts of the Balfour Declaration freshly signed not long before the Mandate began.

Gideon Levy’s justifiable fury and despair at the decision to drop all charges against those accused (from video evidence) of raping a Palestinian prisoner. He concludes that truth has no importance anymore. What really happened is irrelevant, reality has no more role to play, only fabrications do. In the prevailing atmosphere that’s taken over, any lie can conceal any truth. This is a scrambling of all values, even more important than the existence of a military prison where torture took place.

In September the Gaza Tribunal was held: it found the UK to be complicit in Israel’s genocide of Gaza. Labour’s “sanctions” were wholly inadequate. The call for an Inquiry into UK complicity was refused by Starmer’s government because “such an inquiry would be unnecessary as there is no confusion about UK military operations in Gaza.”

A military attack on Turkey may sound far fetched but the language being used about Turkey has been used before, most especially about Iran. Just one of many examples in this article is from the New York Post where, “Jonathan Schanzer of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies accused Ankara of “cultivating terrorist proxies in the Middle East for years.” This deploys the same language long used to justify sanctions and war against Iran.”
