Victories for Palestine solidarity groups in France and Germany

JVL Introduction

President Macron’s order banning two Palestine solidarity groups has been suspended by the Conseil d’Etat, which acts as France’s supreme court.

Government charges that the Collectif Palestine Vaincra and the Comité Palestine Action of were antisemitic and inciting hatred and violence against Israel and were dismissed as baseless.

This decision chimes with an earlier unanimous decision by the European Court of Human Rights that France’s criminal prosecutions of activists who have called for such boycotts violate fundamental guarantees of freedom of expression.

And in Germany last week, a court sided with the local Palestine solidarity committee against city authorities in Stuttgart, affirming that Palestine solidarity activities are constitutionally protected free speech.

  • I’ve always thought that Macron was not a Left politician. His support for Israel, is the norm for many leading politicians, often influenced by the Israeli Lobby. It’s good to see that the French and German Courts have the power to overturn a Government order.
I only wish our Courts were not so influenced by our Tory Government.
