Gaza has changed us forever; onwards to justice

JVL Introduction

For the first time in history, this genicide in Gaza’s has been livestreamed to us all and there is no way this can be unseen.  This has to change things: “Discourses of decolonization and accountability now permeate arenas once confined to the diplomatic language of a two-state solution. Israel’s assaults on Gaza have shattered the pretense that its violence is episodic or defensive, exposing genocide as a structural feature of its settler-colonial project.

For Palestinians, this moment reaffirms a longstanding truth: liberation cannot be secured through negotiation within an unjust system but requires confronting the structures that enact their dispossession and erasure.”

Furthermore, argues the author, opposition to what is happening in Gaza is part of wider struggles for justice, including climate justice and much more. Awareness of the structures of power have been raised and Palestine has become, for many, the lens through which other important issues are viewed.

Of course the powerful want to preserve the status quo, to go back to October 6th 2023 as if that was working.  So “(c)entral to this attempt to restore the old order is the fixation on Hamas. The demand to “destroy Hamas” operates as a pretext for genocide. It allows Israel and its allies to frame total war against Palestinians as counter-terrorism, collapsing resistance into criminality.”

This must not succeed and it depends on the Palestinians – and all of us.

People can’t unsee a live-streamed annihilation defended under the banner of liberal democracy. They know the Israeli apartheid regime can no longer exist.
