MPs say that words are not the same as action Mr Lammy!
JVL Introduction
MPs from most Parties are furious at the government’s inaction and general feebleness – not to say complicity – in relation to the genocide Israel is inflicting on Gaza. Of course this is not to let the previous government off the hook either). Labour acts as though it is powerless to act – and certainly to act alone – but that is not true. In the article below are some of the reactions from MPs and some of the possible actions – especially over arms sales – that the government could take.
Not only have the government not done enough to end Israel’s actions but it has clamped down on action in support of Palestine, including arrests for two leaders of the national marches for Palestine and many more called in for questioning including Holocaust survivor Stephen Kapos and MPs John McDonnell and Jeremy Corbyn. It also seems that a UK spy plane flew towards Gaza hours before Labour condemned the ‘horrors’ and the government joined with 31 other countries to call for a ceasefire.”

‘This is not action’: MPs respond to David Lammy’s condemnation of Israel

It would be more helpful to have the NAMES of MPs who have spoken out, so that we could support them morally and practically. This looks like parliament-lobby journalism dealing with ‘sources’, but of course the names will be in Hansard and the public domain. So why not publish them?
How fed up I am with the Guardian. Someone who still reads it tells me that Freedland has never gone away…
This plasticine character that masquerades as a foreign minister can do plenty on behalf of the UK. It does not need to wait of 4th ear criminal Donald Trump. Just as they helped Israel with bombing the Huthies in Yemen, and helped Israel to fend off missiles from Iran, it can send a task force with warships, which it has in the Mediterranean (originally intended to protect Israel) to Haifa and Ashdod, to go in and get the humanitarian aid through at all the entry points in Gaza, together with UNRWA.. If the flotillas are brave enough to try and break the siege, The UK has plenty of muscle to go in NOW and even threaten to bomb Tel Aviv and other defence sites if not let through immediately. He has to say ‘Enough is Enough, and mean in Ann act. He can impose a complete arms embargo on Israel. a trade embargo (not just stop trade talks) and embolden other countries including France, Germany and the EU to do so. The UK can immediately declare its recognition of a Palestinian State, which will enrage Israel and the US, but say that it is complying with UN and International law with all these actions, as the ICJ rulings of January and July 2024 require. It can say they will arrest Netanyahu if he lands in the UK, and also arrest rather than invite IDF personnel to conferences are joint war games. It should totally suspend ANY reconnaissance flights over Gaza and other countries, stop sending re-fuelling planes from Brize Norton to actually help with the genocide, stop allowing Akrotiri in Cyprus being used for Israeli planes to take off to bomb Gaza, Lebanon and Syria, stop training IDF soldiers or allow the Israeli Airforce actually use Brize Norton as a stop. It can free the Filton 18, unproscribe Palestine Action, stop any trade with the settlements, he can send the task force to the West Bank to stop and arrest the settlers from their land grabs. Yes all this is totally do-able an practicable. He can get joint action with all other sympathetic countries. Let Israel try and stop them, or Trump of that matter.
The list is endless. Together with the Home Secretary, he can get all those arrested had their arrest. and convictions quashed. He can get the IHRA definition scrapped, get Hamas un-proscribed, and get Israel declared as the terror and genocidal entity. And Palestinians here, together with solidarity groups can get urgent injunctions for the UK to act immediately as required by the ICJ and ICC, and the whole plethora if international law.
It is claimed by many with inside knowledge that there exists between the UK & Israel an agreement that is so ultra-top secret that not even sitting MPs are allowed to see it.
Now I don’t know for sure, but can take an educated guess that this document would provide ample evidence of why this lousy government is “unable” to take stronger measures faster to stop the Gaza genocide or indeed why such a suspiciously close relationship between the two countries exists in the first place.
It is likely that the heat under this complicit government will get turned up in the near future. When/if it does, perhaps leaking this document to a reliable media entity (and to hell with the consequences) would be Starmer & Lammy’s best mitigatory defence in the court of UK/World public opinion and indeed that of the ICC/ICJ?
Even if any such ‘ultra-top secret’ agreement exists it’s crazy to suppose that it could provide the KS government any mitigation against charges of complicity and practical support for the genocidal actions of the criminal State of Israel.
