Israel – something’s gotta give!

JVL Introduction

On the day after c 500,000 Israelis took to the streets and on the day of a major strike in Israel for a ceasefire deal, we publish this timely interview with Israeli activist Ofer Neiman, a partner with us in Global Jews for Palestine.

It is possible that the scale of protests, the naming Netanyahu as a murderer and today’s strike may bring some change.  What is clear is that Israel cannot continue as it is now; even some serving Israeli soldiers are refusing to continue until a deal is signed. (see at the end of the article) and the economy is in a very bad state.  Above all it seems that, finally, there is recognition that it is the Israeli government that is blocking the ceasefire with Cabinet voting to maintain a presence in the Philadelphia Corridor against the advice of Israeli generals.  Whether this will lead also to more Israelis seeing Palestinians as equal human beings and beginning to question the Jewish supremacy that has underpinned Israel since its foundation is open to question but anything that could lead to a ceasefire is to be welcomed.

In the meantime, we are pleased to share the views of a seasoned Israeli activist who is active in the organisations Boycott from Within and Israelis Against Apartheid.
