Israel: murdering journalists to kill the truth

Israel is not the only country that uses the label terrorist in its attempts to delegitimise opposition to its acts – including genocide. Ever since the “war on terror” declared by President Bush following the attacks on September 11th 2001, the gloves have been well and truly off.
But Israel’s targeting of Palestinian journalists – even while refusing access to foreign journalists – is on another level. The number of journalists killed as the chart above shows, is significantly greater than for any other war by any measure. But according to Israel they were all Hamas, even when there is evidence that the murdered journalists have opposed Hamas. Of course the other reason for being murdered it to have been in the same tent as someone targeted as a Hamas operative while “pretending” to be a journalist.
Western journalists need to be speaking out much, much more than they are and they also need to stop conventions of “neutrality” that actually conform to the Hasbara whereby Palestinians die and Israelis are murdered. As noted in the Urban ramblings piece which featured the graph, quoting from this piece by Jonathan Cook if five BBC journalists were finally able to set up a studio in Gaza, ” with Jeremy Bowen, Lyse Doucet, Yollande Knell, Lucy Williamson and Jon Donnison” which “was hit by an Israeli strike, and all five killed: would any BBC reporter ask “There’s the question of proportionality. Is it justified to kill five journalists when you were only targeting one?” Yet this was a question asked in relation to the murder of 6 journalists including Anas Al-Sharif,
